James Laughlin (1914 -1997) an American poet and literary book publisher who founded New Directions Publishing., was born in Pittsburgh to Henry Hughart and Marjory Rea Laughlin, an earlier generation of the family had made a fortune in the steel industriy and this wealth would help fund Laughlin's future endeavors in publishing.
