During the 18th Century, several renowned establishments in Paris (France), London (England), Augsburg (Germany) and Bassano (Italy) were specialized in the creation of these optical views. They could be viewed alone or through a zograscope which would give it dimensional charactistics.
"Court of the Lions" is a modern designation given to a palace in the heart of the Alhambra, in Granada, Spain, based on the notable lion sculptures around the central fountain.
The American writer Washington Irving lived in the Alhambra Palace in 1829 and wrote about the Court of the Lions in his book Tales of the Alhambra. Irving's descriptions of the Alhambra and its ruins helped to generate interest in the palace among foreigners, including artists and writers
