2009 saw the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Born on February 12th, 1809.
Henry Bacon designed the memorial to the 16th President, and Daniel Charles French designed the 19ft statue inside. The memorial was opened to the public in 1922. The memorial sits on the edge of the Potomac River with the Kennedy Center and the infamous Watergate Hotel to its left.
